Public advocate (ombudsman): There are no meeting rooms in Zhytomyr region’s court

In the Chudnivsk District Court of the Zhytomyr Region there are no rooms for witnesses, no rooms for lawyer to communicate with the defendant, no consultation rooms, and also no ramp for disabled people.

Law and Business reports : “These conclusions were made by a representative of the Registry of the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights during a visit to the Chudnivsk District Court of the Zhytomyr Region”.
According to the Ombudsman, there are no rooms in the court for confidential communication of the lawyer with the defendant, for witnesses, for the review of cases by the citizens, including defendants, and also there is no meeting room.

Also, the court does not have a ramp, which makes it difficult for citizens with disabilities to get into the courtroom. In addition to this, the button to call court employees does not work yet. A ramp, installed on an alternative entrance for physically-challenged people does not comply with the standards.

However, the courtroom for criminal proceedings is equipped with the necessary technical means for recording the proceedings and the technical means of conducting remote proceedings in videoconference mode. The barriers for the defendants are made of special protective glass that meets the established requirements.
It is worth mentioning that there are four cells for persons on trial per courtroom for criminal proceedings, which fully ensures the separate placement of men and women, adults and minors, other persons.
