The Court of Appeal released blogger Kotsaba

The Court of Appeal has fully acquitted the Ivano-Frankivsk journalist and blogger Ruslan Kotsaba, who was previously found guilty of impeding the activity of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and sentenced to a prison term of three years and six months by the Ivano-Frankivsk City Court.

Human rights activist Tetyana Blyzniuk has informed thereof on her Facebook page .

“Just now the Court of Appeal has fully acquitted Ruslan Kotsaba. I would like to remind you that a pre-trial court sentenced him to a four plus years. The Prosecutor’s Office filed an appeal to extend the sentence to 13 years. Each person has the right to disagree with someone’s statements. But no one has the right to put a person behind bars for such statements. I hope he receives a compensation for unlawful detainment”, she wrote.

“Ukrinform” also confirms that the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Court of Appeal has declared journalist Kotsaba not guilty of high treason and released him from custody.

The court decision reads as follows: “To close criminal proceedings on Ruslan Kotsaba based on the absence of crime; to immediately release him from custody”.

His lawyer Sulyma said that the prosecution provided no evidence of Ruslan Kotsaba impeding the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Prosecutor Biliy responded by saying that the Court did not account for all evidence on charges under part 1, Article 111.

In his address the blogger once again reiterated that there was “civil war going on” in Donbas and promised that Petro Poroshenko would be punished and judged for “fratricidal war”, along with Arseniy Yatseniuk and Olexandr Turchynov.
