“Creating the EU, we have developed a concept, which previous generations could not even dream of. However, on the way to unification, we sometimes chose very fast pace and not all citizens wanted or were able to follow us. It worries me”, J.Gauk said in his interview to “Die Welt”.
According to him, it is first necessary to convince the population of the EU is that “united Europe firmly based on the values of freedom, democracy, peace and supremacy of law”.
Currently, the candidates for accession to the European Union are Iceland, Turkey, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia.
