Ukraine pays compensation according to ECHR decisions worse than others

In 2016 the European Court of Human Rights awarded the claimants against Ukraine 1.2 million euros compensation.

It is stated in the report of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, reports “European truth” .

For comparison, in 2015 this amount was 966 thousand euros. During 2013 Ukraine has lost on the claims in the ECHR almost 33 million euros, in 2014 – almost 7.7 million euros.

In 2016, Ukraine adhered to the payment deadline in 20 cases and paid compensation after the deadline in 16 cases.

As of December 31, 2015, there are 213 cases regarding which confirmation of payments are still pending, and in 166 of them – payment confirmation has not been received for more than six months after the expiry of the specified period.

This is the highest rate among all countries included in the report, that is, almost every fifth decision of the ECHR, after which payment has not been performed on time, was Ukrainian.

For comparison, in 2015 Ukraine paid compensation on time in 23 cases (in 2014 – in just 5 cases). 168 decisions were expecting confirmation of payment (135 of them – for more than six months after the deadline).
