UN: 1.5 million people in Eastern Ukraine are on the verge of starvation

Two years of armed conflict in Eastern Ukraine have resulted in 1.5 million Ukrainians facing the threat of starvation, including 300 thousand people experiencing an acute shortage of food and requiring immediate assistance.

It says so on the site of the United Nations with a reference to the World Food Program (WFP).

Two years of violence, shootings, living in fear have irreversibly impacted the lives of thousands in Eastern Ukraine ”, Giancarlo Stopponi , the UN World Food Program representative in Ukraine, said.

He also called upon all sides of the conflict to “ensure full and unimpeded humanitarian access to people in need of food supplies”.

It is noted that the residents of occupied districts of Lugansk Region and of the communities near the “conflict line” suffer from the worst food shortage.
